How To: Pack a suitcase without getting everything wrinkled

Pack a suitcase without getting everything wrinkled

Packing a suitcase so that everything arrives unwrinkled is an art, but it's one everyone can learn.
You Will Need
* Plastic dry cleaner bags
* Discipline
* Tissue paper (optional)

Step 1: Save dry cleaner bags
Start saving your dry-cleaner bags in the weeks leading up to your trip.

Step 2: Fasten everything
Spread out the clothes you are planning to take and fasten every zipper, hook, and button.

Fabrics that don't wrinkle easily include nylon, polyester, microfiber, spandex, acrylic, and acetate. They're also drip-dry, so you can hand wash items during your trip.

Step 3: Layer and fold
Take your pants, fold each pair lengthwise; layer them on top of each other; and then fold the entire set over once.

Step 4: Layer and roll
Layer and roll your shirts by placing them on top of each other, carefully folding the arms across the middle, and then rolling.

For added protection, place tissue paper between each layer.

Step 5: Place in bags
Place each set of folded or rolled clothes into separate dry cleaning bags.

Step 6: Begin packing
Begin packing by placing the heaviest clothing on the bottom, with suits and jackets face down. Sweaters and light jackets go next, followed by lightweight items like shirts and blouses.

Step 7: Tuck socks
Tuck socks inside your shoes, put the shoes in plastic bags to prevent them from soiling your clothes, and place them along the sides of the suitcase.

Pack your pj's last so you don't get everything wrinkled digging for them when you reach your destination.

Step 8: Evaluate
When you've packed everything you're taking, look at your suitcase. Wrinkling is caused by both under-packing and over-packing, so add or remove items until you have a snug, but not too cramped fit.

Fact: Thirty-four percent of women polled said they like to pack clothes that do double duty as workout duds and casual wear.
